Summer heat and travel
Protect your blood sugar, insulin and feet in the heat and on the move.
Draft · awaiting clinician review
In the heat
- Drink water regularly; dehydration can raise blood sugar.
- Keep insulin and your meter out of direct heat and never leave them in a parked car. Use a cool bag.
- Be active early in the morning, after sunset or indoors.
- Protect your feet from hot floors and sand.
When you travel
- Carry all medicines in your hand luggage, with extra supplies.
- Bring a letter from your doctor listing your medicines.
- If you use insulin and cross time zones, ask your team how to adjust timing.
- Keep snacks and fast-acting sugar with you.
